So over-polished that the Y is practically
gone.

Thought it was cooling looking. You can see some of the polishing they did around the back of Abe's head as well.

Later on I believe even more of that die was polished away.

Seems like that year, someone was abusing the dies when trying to remove a clash or something else:

Here is my 72 CC. still see remnants of the die clash in front of the chin behind his neck and the date also a small die crack at the top of his head

Wouldn't have minded adding a clash like that to my collection. I checked out Maddieclashes.com and they have a lot of listings for 1974D
