The egg treatment, like the baked potato treatment will produce a color that does not follow the laws of naturally toned chromatics, such as elevation variability. If you want to tone the coin naturally, you will have to use H2S gas, which can be generated by an open jar of sulfur in the same closed space as the coin. 6 months and you should see some nice colors. The surfaces will still be polished, but there will be toning.
Thanks for weighing In Andrew. I'm trying to do this as naturally as possible. Aside from the health risks, I suspected the egg treatment would look unnatural. I'm actually pleased with the soil results from last week. I went ahead and put it back into the soil container last night. I should note that I added tap water to keep it muddy.
When I dug it out of the ground it was muddy from a recent ice-storm. I'm going to leave it in the container for another week and post results.
On the pocket coin suggestion, I see it doing more harm than good. I don't think having a coin rattling around with my keys would produce an optimal outcome. It would probably scratch and damage the coin further. Not to mention the probable cement drops that would occur when fishing my keys out of my pocket.
