Hi Everyone,

Was looking through a bulk lot of modern US I'd bought and noticed what I thought was a scratch on my 1967 SMS Nickel. However, looking under power, it's actually a struck through error. Might be a piece of wire, there's also some evidence on the top of the dome as-well as in the field.

Just something I thought was interesting and worth sharing!

Looks like the same piece of scrap or wire was between both strikes of the SMS nickel. (proof coins and SMS nickels were struck twice) Thus anomaly happened twice on your coin. Probably first on the field, then it moved to the building area as it is deeper into the die and struck a second time bending the wire.

Interesting piece! I've never seen strike-through like this with two different impressions from the same object.

Thanks for the info! I didn't think that much about the process but your post coop makes sense to me. One that will go into my "interesting" collection.
