I Found A 1980's Quarter. Very Strange

Coin rolling and found this quarter. Both sides are dark and both sides of the picture and letters are very faint. Rim is dark too and the quarter is smaller than others in diamiter and thickness.

It appears to have been exposed to some sort of acid.
