I came across this in pocket change. There appears to be doubling on the obverse and reverse side. Although it needs to be cleaned, I believe I see some mottling around the areas I'm talking about. It also seems a little heavier that a zinc planchet (getting scales tomorrow), and there are some pretty deep scratches but no signs of visible zinc although the light in some pictures may make it appear that way. Would love to hear some opinions from a trained eye! My go-to reference didn't have anything on it. Thanks in advance.

I should also add that I've searched the forum and found some threads about the date, but nothing on the reverse side.

Reverse is split plating.

Split plating is the beginning for the the end for the copper plated zinc cents. Just a spender. No need to clean it. The reverse split plating can be seen on the outside edge of the devices and sometimes on the outside of the Memorial on the columns.

Thank you, coop. I've read a lot of your posts on threads and they're all very informative and thorough!

Thanks again, everyone. I actually found a 1980 P DDO today. I was running late for a meeting this evening and couldn't get good pictures but this is what I do have.

That is a normal one. Slight machine damage on the tops of the devices. (hiding in the glare) This is the real one:

I think I may have to throw the towel in on this DDO searching. This one sure fooled me. The doubling matched the Cherry Pickers Guide (I guess my mind just wanted it to haha). As always, thank you for your help, coop.

Here is a classic 1980 that made me take a second look:
