That is some pretty impressive doubling, but I have to agree with John.

The white arrows point out narrowing of the devices while the red arrows point out how the doubling is on both sides of the devices. If it were a doubled die, the doubling would move in the same direction, side to side, up/down, or rotated.

Also note on the 'R', the MD is reducing the size of that device. So it is not a doubled die, just machine damage after the coin was struck. Same on the 'B' on LIBERTY as well. Note how much thinner the device is on the top loop. MD reduced the overall size of the device.

I think I only see machine damage or Strike Doubling.

Thanks , I just had never come across one like that, most of his jacket is doubled as well. I'm sure my grandson will like it anyway.

They are always educational pieces for the next new collector we find. Get the new ones that are just starting interested. They can use that knowledge to share with others.

I think youngsters in general like odd things. I sent my grandson a 1940 uncirculated 50 cent piece ,and my daughter said he thought it was nice. Then I sent him a clipped penny and a dime with a nice broad strike and I got a really happy phone call
