Recently picked up this coin from 311778436807 for about $70

Any red flags of counterfeit?

I'm not acquainted with this series, but I don't personally like the look. I'd certainly wait for experts because I could very well be wrong!

Have you weighed it? It should be between 25 and 27 grams if I am not mistaken. It certainly has no obviouse casting marks to suggest its a cast fake to me.

I don't like it. That circulation cameo looks very unnatural.

It's one of the more common issues of its series, so it generally isn't a high dollar coin. That said, it could still easily be counterfeit.

I echo the need for an accurate weight to begin the evaluation process - in its apparent condition, I'd expect a genuine example to come in around 26+ grams.

From what I'm seeing, there's nothing that's a visual "red flag" but an examination of the edge (another necessary step in authenticting this type) might reveal such.

I agree that the unusual oxidation pattern is of concern. However, the edge looks appropriate right? This is my first of the type, so I'm not sure what a valid edge should look like. However, the edge looks appropriately scallopped

Weight, diameter, and a photo of the edge would be useful. Counterfeiters and forgers do often imitate the appropriate edge. After seeing a good number of authentic vs fake you can better distinguish them. Also important to note where the edge design overlap is (should be directly opposite).

From the picture to me its probably regal. Silver in its most oxidative state is black. In other words to get this black coloration the silver content in this piece is very high and is probably regal. I don't even bother hunting/purchasing coins with blackish toning due to this factor. I don't collect the earliest issues just the bust types and in a counterfeit nature. So IMO its real (regal) due to its blackish toned state. No other alloy than a high silver alloy can produce toning of this nature. It may have been cleaned due to this non-uniformity of toning. I indicate this and do the surface chemistry in my new book coming out soon via Amazon Books on this form of toning with high silver alloy coins. Around April, 2017.
