I'm pretty sure it's fake. Here's what a real one looks like... https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide...0-duid-29001 However, it looks old so it may have been a contemporary fake, which some folks collect. I doubt it has significant value but I woudn't toss it in the trash.

Roger, the OPs coin is supposed to be an 8 escudos, not 8 reales.

If it's a real fake, then it's fake.
If it's a fake fake then is it real?

What if ? Because This matches the other " fakes " maybe the " real one " was licensed to a modern facility back then and the " fake " ones were licensed to a open fire type facility in the Caribbean therefore perhaps it's real , i/e different mints ? Or maybe a variety like the 1982 LMC"s.... ?

To me, just the details of the bust are obviously faked, digits seem wrong shapes. Hard to imaging an "authorized" coin would be that way.

This is a genuine piece sold through HA: This is the Lima mint and there were other mints, but they all look like this.

@spruett001 - if it is a fake real then it is a real fake real. But say the mint made a real real base on the fake real then it could be called a real fake real thus making it real. Another way of looking at it is that fakes are fakes and reals are reals thus fake reals are fake and real fake reals are real but never confuse a real fake with a fake real, just because both are fake does not make them both the same. So as we delve into the world of real fakes and fake reals it is important to keep the heads up to determine the fakes and reals because no one wants a real real fake but everyone will take a real real (fake or not). Sorry guys, I'm just in a really good mood now and I think my head is going to explode, no fakes just real.

The NGC coin is typical of high grade examples. Your coin is supposed to be gold and it isn't. There is no chance yours is real. Sorry.

The details are certainly real, but the coin is not a Real but an Escudo. So, can an Escudo be real? But if it is real, then it can't be fake. But, it is an Escudo, and therefore can not be a Real coin, so all must be fake by definition. So, the coin is a fake Real Escudo.
Oh, my head hurts...
