@persia, the date is written out in Kufic words along the perimeter. If you are looking to learn how to date your coins, I definitely recommend "Arabic Coins and How to Read Them" by Richard Plant.

I had a problem with this and that inspired me to buy as many books as I can find regarding coin dates so the Plant book is one of many on my bookshelf.
Trouble is, many posts here are not really from serious world coin collectors. They may have a piece here and there and may be curious, but not curious enough to go through the trouble of buying books. I'd need better quality images or even the coin in hand for me to give it a whirl. Others may do it better than me with the given images.

These coins are read very similarly to the silver dirham I posted in these educational pics:

Except that for these gold coins, the important inscription with the date has "swapped sides" and is now the legend around the side shown in the OP's bottom pic.

The legend starts at about 12 o'clock and reads "Bismallah zuriba haza el-dinar sanat sitt wa tis'in" - By God's will, this dinar was struck, year six and ninety. AH 96 equates to AD 714-715.
