Stilling working on my knowledge so I could use some help. 1982 D looks like a shift of the planchet, maybe? But the reverse is most in question and I'm not sure what to take of it. The inside of the A looks double, slightly on the M, and the E (lower edge) and middle of the R. Probably just me reaching and a bad eye for these things. I have pictures and different angles to insure that it's not just a shadow. Those areas never change.

Just to confirm, this is not a doubled die right? If so, I can't find information anywhere. If I had seen this coin, it would be just MD to me. IMHO

Whoops, 89'* I may have been squinting @ an 82' around the time of this post. Great, now I have to go check the coin acronym list to find out what LDS means. MD is medium date, correct? If it is, what does that have to do with the lettering? Could someone explain, please? And thanks for the replies too.

Thanks John1! Guess the coin acronym list I have has left a few out. I really appreciate all the knowledge. Everyday I'm learning something new on here. It's awesome and now I'm hooked on the coin hunt.
Rest in Peace

MD would effect a group of adjacent letters or digits/devices in a similar pattern. Have to look up links to good discussion/pix , can't post links on this cheap tablet! http://www.coppercoins.com for DD & RPM for good comparison pix. Note split plating on mintmark and E and last A in America, just didnt split in first A, the sign of LDS with a wornout reverse die.

The area SE of the mint mark is from split plating. When this happens the zinc under that area is exposed and starts to deteriorate.

This also happens on outside devices often on the reverse of the coin.

This is not a good thing as the coin will eventually keep breaking down. (I put these back into circulation as this will continue to get worse with time)
