Looking through old heritage auctions. The $5 bank of east Tennessee has sold from between 40-150 condition depending obviously. Here is the last one they sold in may of 2016 for $77.00.
https://currency.ha.com/itm/obsolet...ption-071515 The $20 east Tennessee note hasn't sold by itself since September 2011 on heritage and that note sold for $62.00. They did sell one with a $10 note last year for $119 for the pair.
https://www.ha.com/c/search-results...h-A-K-071316I couldn't find any of the Morris canal sold by heritage that looked like the one you posted. There were other notes from the bank, but they were all different designs. Could that note be a counterfeit? It has may similarities to the other notes from the bank?
I did find this on another website.
The branch bank location in Jersey City issued the following types of currency:
1st Series (Denomination & Dates): $1 - late 1830s - 1841
2nd Series: $2 - late 1830s - 1841
3rd Series: $3 - 1820s - 1841
4th Series: $5 - 1820s - 1841
5th Series: $10 - late 1830s - 1841
6th Series: $20 - 1830s
7th Series: $50 - 1830s
8th Series: $100 - 1830s
I have seen the $10 notes from the 5th series on heritage, so you could in fact have a counterfeit.
Here is a link to a $10 note from heritage.
https://currency.ha.com/itm/obsolet...ption-071515Here is a $5 note from the same bank.
https://currency.ha.com/itm/obsolet...ption-071515If you notice the vignette of the people sitting has been moved to the middle of the note you have and the canal picture was swapped to the right side while the "president" vignette was moved to the left side. I'm not saying what you have isn't real, but there was definitely a lot of counterfeit currency changing hands when every bank made their own.
