Hey everyone... came across this 1998 Lincoln today. At first glance looked normal but then when the light reflected differently doubling then appeared... weird. Looked it up on Lincoln Cent resource and stumbled on this. Need help confirming this. Is this rare? Thought maybe Die Deterioration too, with possible MD? Thanks for the continued support.

I think your coin is exhibiting Die Deterioration Doubling.
Here are more photos of the grease mold doubling: http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/F...oubling.html

EDIT: What you have posted is from http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/F...oubling.html Do you have a link to the page you got this from?

I agree this is not a grease molding issue:

Note on the image on this site that the dies were filled with grease. On your coin I see no evidence of this on your coin. The devices are well formed. But as Clause mentioned, the issue is not grease, but the die is deteriorating.

Note on this example, the devices on the date are normal, but the Die Deterioration is separate. On the image from you posted you can see the devices mostly fill and the spread of just one digit. The last one. Your coin is more like the 1992 image I posted.

No worries

Looking at the pictures of that 1998 and the 1995 on error ref, they both show other parts of the coin that show it was struck with a dirty die. I don't see any signs of that on your coin.
