It shows the signs of a peeled lamination but I was curious about the rim seemingly being intact. Thoughts?

It sure looks like a lamination to me since there is the ghosting effect on the devices.

Also the lamination peel off after the strike. If it was missing before the strike the reverse would have been affected by weakness opposite that area. The reverse looks normal. If the two pieces (the coin and the peel) had been saved in BU, the price would spectacular. Something like this one:

Alas, that's not the case...

Just a homely coin without its relative and not anywhere near BU.

At least maybe it's an example of how a LAM would stand the weather of 100 years.

a keeper. It's a large peeled lam and it's on a pretty old penny in not too bad a condition. Not sure what you were curious about concerning the rim. They look to me to be a little dinged and worn. Nice coin.

The area above LIBERTY on the rim, just peeled off that area with the lamination peel. It is part of it and not damage other than the peel.

As far as the rim, it seemed unusual that the peel pretty much stopped there and left it almost entirely intact with no loss of thickness.

That's the main reason I was unsure about this being a lamination error despite other clear identifiers.

Thanks for your input guys and I will definitely be keeping it!
