In the beginning of December I bought a coin from US at ebay. It is now stuck at USPS facility in Chicago for 42 days. I contacted the seller and he told me that it happens from time to time that the item is stuck for 8 - 12 weeks that way. Is this normal? Or should I ask USPS about the shippment (and where should I adress my quiestion)? Thanks for your thought on this EDIT: the shippment is tracked, of course and was sent to Slovenia. I would call ebay immediately and ask what you should do. I think you should get a refund and if it shows up pay the seller again. I wouldn't hold my breath for a package taking that long though but it does happen.

After some time trying to figure out the USPS website I finally managed to fill the form to get the search for the coin started. Seller offered me a refund, but we agreed to wait a bit more and see if USPS turns up with anything. I'm just happy that the coin wasn't worth a lot. It could be a LOT worse :) It's a proof 1957 quarter, btw.

Usps Chicago has been horrible as of late. Ive had items leave there, go to Fox Valley facility....closer to me, then go back to Chicago Metro and sit...... Finally receive it but no wonder they lose money.

It may show up, the longest I had a problem was about 7 weeks. the padded mailer was stuck in a USPS sorting center in Des Moines Iowa. Sometimes parcels get loaded into carts with canvas bags and things can get hung up in there until one day it breaks looses when emptied.
good luck

I had a coin start out from Arizona , went to Washington and the abruptly made a right turn to Pennsylvania where it stayed for a couple weeks. Finally started moving west again. Sometimes weird stuff happens.

If it was going to Slovenia, it may have left the country after it hit Chicago and there may not be any further tracking of it. Once it leaves USPS hands tracking security and delivery are up to the postal services of the other countries it passes through. Some are quite good and report all tracking and have good reputations of actually delivering packages, some have very high incidence of things disappearing.

Go to the post office and offer to sweep up. Check behind cabinets and under desks. You'll probably find several dozen 'stuck' packages.
Baring that, put the tracking number into the LOCAL (Slovenian) tracking system and see if they picked it up. I've had that happen with ChinaPost.

It may be stuck in customs. I ordered some coins overseas and the packaged arrived in Chicago. It was stuck for two weeks. It had to pass through customs. 42 days is not the norm. It may have been confiscated by customs for failure to pay the proper duty tax. I would request a refund from ebay. It's not coming to you.

It would not be stuck in Chicago due to tax/ duty. There is no tax/duty to EXPORT to another country. That would be payable in the other country, if any.
