Being from Missouri, I have been wanting to get one of the Missouri Centennial commemorative coins. I know they are generally costly, too. I came upon this one auction, and something doesn't feel right. The seller is in Macedonia and the Missouri coin they are selling just doesn't look right. I am no expert on them, so what do you all think? Real or not?

My gut says no.

the title states please read description the description states "No silver coin". I assume he meant "Not silver coin"

He also has a pilgrim that has a near identical look.

I would trust your gut.

No need to guess on this one ... it is a horribly poor counterfeit and not worthy of spending any time on.

Here is what a genuine example looks like .... PCGS MS65/CAC

Missouri-Centennial...fake?

I have given up on reporting the fake commemoratives to ebay ... nothing gets done about it and I could report 10 a day at the rate they are currently showing up.

Education is your best defense ... I'm glad you asked and did not join the other 19 bidders prepared to throw away their money on this example.

That is true.

I almost started a classic half collection. That would have been a years long endeavor. I even bought a couple, including a fake one (got my money back).

The sheer amount of fakes is what put me off of that collection.

Turned out to be for the best though-- because it prompted me to explore numismatic bullion collecting and it has opened the door to a whole new world (literally) of coins I can collect, which changing beautiful designs, for very little, if any, over the price of the metal. You still have to be careful of course.

Don't give up on the early commems - learn about them, and then buy certified examples in almost any grade - much better investments than today's mass-produced junk.
