Has anyone ever seen a surface like this on a Lincoln Cent?
It is only on one side of the coin.

Are you talking about the general mottled field appearance claude? A full obverse pic may help get more opinions but does it have that acid dipped looked to you? Thats all I'm coming up with from what I can see.

It's not acid.
The reverse is normal.
It was minted this way.
I have only ever seen it one other time.
It covers one side all the way to the edge.
I'm just curious as to if anyone else is familiar with it. Together, the people here must search hundreds of thousands of cents, just trying to find out how common it is and what may be the cause.

I've seen it too Claude. A marbled appearance, generally on older cents. I've not seen this on zincolns.

That's pretty interesting Claude. It's almost like there are some impurities in the copper when it was rolled. I'm sure I have one similar to that, I just have to find it, Edited 10:PM "Wait that's not copper?"

My best guess would be an improper alloy mix.

The coin is probably a 1982 or 83 based on the design of the devices.

Nice job with the details josephm99!
The year is not a secret, it just wasn't in the part of the coin I posted.
Here is another image that might show it better.

Here is the reverse side.

The obverse and reverse are so different, they don't even look like the same coin.

I was assuming it was older than that and from the pics, doesn't look like a Zincoln.

My best guess is an improper plating issue.
