I found this 1982-P in a bank roll this afternoon. I think this qualifies as a "spiked head," no? At first I thought the line was a scratch. The break is on the obverse at the top. I assume the fuzziness on the reverse in the fields is due to die wear.

It's hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like what they call orange peel. It's from over-use of the dies, the metal becomes stressed, Die Deterioration.

How far does the die crack run? It seems to go off the screen in the second close up, and it's lost in the shadow of the first close up. I don't see any Spike Heads listed on Jefferson nickels earlier than 1993 http://cuds-on-coins.com/u-s-coins-...spike-head/) so congrats on the new find. Now go submit it!

Now try to buy the Cud that matches it. A 1982 P nickel in that condition is a great find anyway.
That link is great. Must be one of these ... before it completely broke away.
