Hello, Nothing special about this coin but I did see past auctions that a coin around 30 years old in great MS condition was selling for a pretty penny. This coin is in MS condition, even though pictures makes it look worse than it is, with only scratches that are from what I believe to be bag marks, but no wear on the coin itself. on the right I placed a 2015 Lincoln Shield for comparison.

Lincolns in the eighties are somewhat hard to find in great condition, this one has a very nice trike on the obverse and looks MS-64RB to me.

Pretty nicked up with some evidence of handling - not a great example, imo.

For reason the "nicks" appears as nick on the picture, but the coin itself doesn't show any signs of wear. What appears to be nicks is part of the toning only.

Mint state (MS) coins aren't graded by the amount of wear they show. They are graded on how well they were struck and the overall appearance of the coin, among other things. With the plating issues this coin has, the bubbles on the obverse, It wouldn't be a high grade example. On a side note, the reason 1983 and 84 coins in uncirculated condition carry a higher premium is because the mint did not issue any mint sets for those year, so not as many mint state examples were stored away. All of the business strike coins went to circulation. There were some private companies that made souvenir sets which are similar to the US mint issued mint sets. Even these sets carry a premium today.

Great info. Did not know the mint didn't issue mint sets for those years. I have others 83 and 84 that are in better shape. I will post them later just to have an idea if they were be worth sending to be graded.

Looks like some mirror on the reverse, these are hard to photograph for me. I bet this coin looks a lot nicer in hand. These are very hard to find without gas bubbles. From what I've seen with the TPG's, they don't much affect the grade. 65RD

@BadThad. The coin does look much nicer on hand. And yes they are hard to photograph the way we see it. For some reason, they always look much worse than seeing the coin live. Here is another 1984 I found in same condition or better than the 1983 posted.

I'm at 64RD on the 1983, and there actually is a pretty nice die clash on the left side of the obverse and in the 3rd and 9th Memorial bays on the reverse
