Would like your opinion on what it would be graded as. Not thinking about selling but it is my only ASE now and I want to know which AU grade would be. I heard the ASE is one of the toughest to grade but not sure why.

Yeah, I so see a little wear, so au-58 looks about right.

Considering the 1996 Silver eagle is the rarest normal mintage issue outside of the 1995 W, people will always pay more than bullion for it as it's mintage was under 4 million. They normally sell for $45-$65 a pop.

As for grading it is always difficult cause these generally aren't meant to circulate.

Are the surfaces really that dull or is it just the image quality?

A bit more contrast on the photos might help.

As Imthealphaomega stated, this date is always about double for an impaired mint state at the least. Easy $50 coin even if it steps down a tiny bit from the mint state mark.

I will take better pictures and post it tonight. The lighting was bad when I took this picture.

Not sure why the last picture came out with a toning in the middle of the reverse, but it is NOT there. Might have been just the flash from the camera.

The wear is not as noticeable under the flash which is why I had chosen pictures under low lighting.
