Hi all,

Please review the attached images. I found this toonie a week ago and cannot find similar items online, which is why I cannot determine whether this was a minting error, or human alteration. My attached photo is really 3 pics. Please refer mainly to the top left hand corner image first. Other two images are just to show that issues stem from the head of the coin. Bottom pic is more to show the defined curve along the rim of the coin.

Thank you,

Definitely PMD. The scalloped edges were hand done and are not symetrical.

Definitely hand done.
Looks like someone had too much time on their hands.

Also, welcome to the forum.
Always nice to have another member from Central Ontario.

to CCF, always happy to see another Canadian collector here!

A good clue is in the serrations on the edge. They are struck by the collar die - if those are affected, then you know it is post-mint damage.

to CCF. Could it have been an Encased Coin at one time?. Even if it was it is still not a mint error,it is post mint damage.

I agree with above remarks, spp Ottawa nailed it.

For interest sake is there anyway you could get a better pic of the edge of the coin. The bottom picture looks a little blurry. It looks like the scalloping goes quite deep on the obverse, but I don't see is play out on the edge?

Why do people spend an hour or two mutilating coins when they could be roll hunting for an hour and maybe find something authentic, interesting or valuable?
