As usual, I start with an apology for image quality. After getting all bleary eyed looking at halves, I think I may have stumbled across something. The full obverse image probably isn't sharp enough, but the close ups are of the same coin.

In the following close up, I see a hint of doubling on the serifs of the you and a bit of bellying out on the S. However, it does not match the images on the NGC site (https://www.NGCcoin.com/coin-variet...-101-3136/).

This close up is much better at illustrating what I'm seeing in person. There may be a hint of double on the IN. (I can't tell. I really need a loupe.) I'm seeing a lot of separation in GOD, where there appear to be a lighter version of the word S/SW of it.

I don't have a copy of Cherrypicker's Guide, but could someone that does check for it? The only 1972 DDO that I could find images for is the above NGC link.

Thanks in advance!

I can't see anything from the images provided. The 'CPG' shows on DDO. Here is a large image. Click on the motto and click again to back out. Then you can see if it looks like your coin or not:

Large image. Zoom in. This is the 1972 50 FS-101

Thanks for the feedback, coop!

I've attached a better picture here, and would appreciate it if you could take another look. I tilted it to catch the light to better depict what I see with the coin in hand.

Here is a crop of the above picture to show the doubling I'm seeing in GOD. Since it's clearly distinct from the lettering, I believe it's not Machine Doubling, but correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks!

It looks like Die Deterioration. I did have hopes for this one, but it is not a doubled die. On the DDO the devices are enlarged on the tops of the devices. On Die Deterioration they are enlarged, but outside of the devices. Just like on the cent on the left side of the coin, the Die Deterioration is outside of the devices.

Thanks, coop! Another day, another lesson. You should get paid for this.

Interestingly enough, I found another 1972 with similar deterioration on GOD in the same box of halves. Maybe an earlier strike since it seems less severe.

Good luck, coop. I hope your wife feels better soon.

I emailed James Wiles around the same time I posted this, and he said the same thing. Then asked me to paypal him money..

So if I ever find anything, I'll send it off to you for attribution! I figure you should get the credit instead.
