All,

I wanted to know what people recommend you use as a way to sort through and view your coins that will not damage them.

I know that when you go to jewelry stores and coin shows, they often have some sort of "jewelers pad" where you can place coins.

I want something where I can place my nice coins to view them under my magnifying glass, as well as a way to sort a bunch of coins without causing them any damage.

I was thinking that maybe a "jewelers display pad" may be what it is called, but not sure.

And what "color" works best for coins?

Regards,

Mfichael

I just use old towels and the color doesn't seem to matter to me at all.

Color becomes important when photographing a coin and displaying coins, but I don't think it matters for just sorting.

I think a jeweler's pad would be sort of small for sorting.

If you would prefer a nicer fabric, go buy a piece of velvet from a fabric shop. It will keep the coins from sliding around and if you want to use it to take pics, it doesn't reflect light much.
Rest in Peace

Be sure to use a material that isn't going to have problems with a ton of microfiber that sticks to the coins and lengthens the time needed to photograph the coins if you have to blow off all the little particles first.

Using any flat rigid surface, cover with a foam batting (also available at a fabric store), cover with the material, wrap around to the back of the rigid surface ( a piece of press board works well, cut to any size). Staple, screw, or glue material and foam to the back - whatever works best for you.

You can make any size you want for a few bucks.

Try a numismatic supply company, like Wizard Coin Supply.
