Hello

I was wondering what would happen if I send a perfectly normal coin for Restoration at PCGS, like an ms70 2016 Silver Eagle with no spot, discoloration, or toning. Would they do anything to it? Also, would it look better?

I don't know what would happen but save your money. I don't think a 69 or 70 is going to look any better if "restored". Put it toward another nice piece (or something else you like).

PCGS first inspects and evaluates the coin to see if restoration can or needs to be done. So I'm guessing they will determine no restoration is needed and then grade it if desired or simply send it back to you.

Marks right, they evaluate first, if it doesn't need it, it gets a fee of 10 bucks sent to you

I've gotta ask. Why would you want to restore a Coin that does not need it?

Its possible that a coin in an MS70 holder has toned or hazed, that is the only time I could see them attempting to restore it. If there was nothing wrong with it, they wouldnt even crack it if it was a 70.

If your wonder why I'd think about restoring an ms70 coin, it cause I wanted to know if they could "add" more beauty to the coin, like adding mint luster or something like that, not even sure if that's possible without making it lose value. "Restoring" it to a better condition than it already was was kinda my idea.

Basicly: Sending a 70/70 coin to make it 70/70 plus a little bit more brightness than it already had
Rest in Peace

ThreeLui , with all do respect ,99.9% of all members would not send in an MS-70 ASE for restoration . It just doesn't make any sense .

Luster is created at the time of striking. It cannot be added, only subtracted.

There is no such thing as a "70 plus", MS/PR70 is already supposed to be perfection which is why so few coins can legitimately obtain that grade.

I have to agree with the herd and recommend leaving that coin alone. Hey, if you really want to get a coin restored, find one that has some issues and sent that one off instead.
