Just bought a job lot of silver coins on ebay, and I am wondering if this crown is the real thing. I'm pretty sure it is but I have a few doubts, it just looks really light in colour, lots of strange scratches on one side. I've compared it to my crowns that I know are obviously genuine and this one is way way lighter in colour, has somebody maybe tried to clean this coin in the past? I know its not worth more than $20 probably, but would be nice to know that it is real.

Many thanks in advance :)

It weighs precisely 28.1 grams, 38mm diameter. Not magnetic. 2.5mm thickness.

Rim reads ' LXIV DECUS ET TUTAMEN * I ANNO REGNI

At a guess, it looks to be a "dug" coin found by a detector pilot. The colouration may be explained by soil contamination.

Looks genuine to me. It may have been mounted at some time: the depression around FID: on the obverse and the ding just after the 'A' of Victoria could be where the clasps for a brooch have been removed.

Looks like it has been mounted, I see now.

Thanks very much for the help :) I've got a Morgan dollar that I'm going to post soon in The USA section because that looks a bit dodgy too haha.
