Is it normal for there to be some movement in the slab when you handle an NGC graded coin? Is it within the tolerances for the insert to have some play against the capsule? It's not a big deal. I was just surprised since all of my other slabs are rock solid.

Quick! list it on ebay as a rare slab error! List it for the value of the coin times 5!

Funny you say that, have noticed it myself, don't worry about it though, kinda normal.

Here's one of mine. The insert has quite a bit of movement. You can hear it racking back and forth when you shake it.

Why would you send in a 1962 D cent?

Who says I sent it in? The thread is about a generation of NGC slabs with a wobbly insert. This is one of 'em.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of NGC inserts loose within the clear casing. I suspect there's a <1 mm gap of sorts by design.

NGC coins are like bacon - best with just a little play left in them
