Hi all

I'm completely new to this forum and hope I am getting this correct. My grandfather recently passed away and I am trying to help my parents identify some items in his coin collection. One is proving particularly tricky (since I have no expertise in this field).

I have attached an image of the coin below (hope it worked). So far I have been able to discern it is a 2012 mint diamond jubilee £5 coin. In its original plastic case. Ideally would like to know it's value. Can anyone help?

Many thanks in advance

Can you post a picture of the other side of the coin?

Firstly, I'm very sorry to hear about your Grandfather.

This coin looks to be Sterling silver or higher, coins like this are usually 92.5% solid silver but can go as high as fine 99.9% silver. It will weigh about 28.28 grams and special commemorative strikes can be made by different companies such as Pobjoy or Royal Mint. They can range from about £20 up to £200, but this is likely to be on the lower end of the scale. Could you post a picture of the other side and we can try to determine exactly what £5 coin it is.

Such a lot of knowledge on here, so you'll get answers to anything you want with regards to coins.

Welcome :)

Copper-Nickel, not worth a great deal I suspect.

Thanks andyg for figuring out where the coin is from. Don't think this one was offered by Westminster Collection - they did one from Jersey in 2013 for the Coronation Jubilee, so it must have been London Mint Office.

Apologies I could not post the reverse of the coin, it is currently residing at my parents house, which I had left shortly after uploading my original post.

Still, people on here are extremely knowledgable, even just seeing one side you were able to identify it. Thank you very much everyone, for your insight and the condolences wishes.

I wasn't expecting it to be worth a great deal, most of his collection was on the lower end of the scale. The sentimental value of these coins is much greater :-). It's nice to know exactly what they are and where they came from.

So thank you all again.
