What are your thoughts on this Peace dollar. Curious about strike and the toning. Thanks!

First, Peace dollars are notoriously difficult to find with nice toning as is commonly seen with Morgan dollars. The one you are asking about has natural toning, although that toning isn't something I like, personally.

If you are trying to build a Peace dollar set, most set builders try to put a set together that look similar to one another. This 22-D would not fit in very many sets terribly well.

If this is being purchased as a type coin, I'd look elsewhere.

As much as I hate to say it, Peace dollars are best blinding white as it is just so tough to find them with beautiful toning.

Quite a stunning coin - certainly agree not for a set, but I wouldn't mind owning this for type - or simply for beauty.

I wouldn't pay one cent extra for the toning. If the price is above bid on the Greysheet, I don't buy the coin unless it has CAC or is PL or in a old holder.

The toning on this coin does not add any value or eye appeal. The little bit of blue rim toning is nice, but not special. The strike is a little soft above the ear but acceptable. The lack of luster shown in the photo would also give me concern.

This is for a Denver type set so the coin needs to stand as an individual piece.

If you are going to spend $650 on a Peace dollar buy one of the four with less than one million mintage. You might be able to get a 1921 in MS64 for that price or surely a MS63. There are 15 PD's with less than 2 million dollar mintage and most can be had in some sort of MS condition for $650. I think toning is a fad to a great extent. The only coins where it really enhances the beauty and value of coins is for the Morgans.

It needs to be a Denver Mint issue because I am building a Denver Mint type set.

I actually like the toning on this one but I wouldn't overpay for it. I agree with Mox that toning on Peace dollars is usually fugly. However this example is quite pleasing.
