So that's where my coin went!  That's a nice sharp detailed coin, just guessing a VF-35 or better? Good catch! That's one of the two I need for 7070, well, dollars excluded, but...

EF-40 sharpness, but it looks like the high points have cleaned with an abrasive. The red on the rims and the Ms. Liberty's hair should not be there if the coin has been left alone. These last Braided Half Cents did not see much circulation. They are seldom seen in less than EF condition by wear. When I was collecting Half Cents back in the early 1990s, I found that that the 1851 was the most common date. The 1849, 1850 and 1857 pieces are scarcer. These coins are not exactly common, but they aren't collector favorites either. Therefore Crazyb0 should be able to find one for his 7070 without a lot of heavy lifting.

Billjones, believe it or not, been working online auctions for past year, that lil bugger is hard to come by in anything higher than AG for $30 or less. I want a bit more details than that for the money! Thats why I shop other places now, even ebay. I've seen bids go over $200 for a coin like what we see here, unbelievable sometimes.

I don't know where you find Braided Hair Half Cents with that much honest wear on them. The only really low grade examples I've seen got that way through environmental damage.

I'd also say XF 40 details. It looks like someone may have placed the coin face down over an ultra fine abrasive cloth (say 12,000 grit) on a flat surface and lightly rubbing in a circular motion, thus highlighting the rims and high points. It's a good theory!
