Hello,
sometimes I'd like to show my collection when the collection is not physically close.
Thought an app would be the best solution as it wouldn't require internet connection. But how reliable would this option be? Upgrades could be good or bad, phone could get lost...
Do you use any app? Any to recommend? Any other option?
Thanks

I don't have an iPhone nor a SmartPhone (or whatever they're called).
So I don't have apps.
But I'm considering creating my own website for show-and-tell.
That'll be a monster job so I haven't committed myself to it yet.

At one point I considered the same but it would require not only to do that but also to learn actual Web programming.

Latiina, you could just photograph the coins on your phone and keep those pictures in a separate album. No need for internet connection to access them. You would also be able to back up the pictures on a desktop. An alternative is just hosting an album on photobucket or some other image sharing site. Just tweak privacy settings there if you don't want the album to be public.

Yes, it could work but my phone camera on macro is horrible!
Thank you though.

I use an app called US coins plus. It costs a bit but for me it is worth it. I have the majority of my collection listed on there with all of the details I want for each coin. I also have photos for many of my coins and I am adding more on a regular basis. You can add as many pictures for each coin as you want. Another feature is the Buy List, this helps me with a shopping list of coins that I want along with details like how much it should cost. The app is set up for US coins but it will easily list any foreign coin. The developer keeps up on updates, is great about responding to emails and is currently adding some great features.
Rest in Peace

I enter the photos of my coins which is ordered by date since that's how I collect. Inventory number allows me to have the actual purchase receipt in hand in about 20 seconds.

Excel tables for column identification.

Everything is on almost anyone's computer already. It just takes a bit of experience.

And I started at the beginning of my collecting so that it's easy to keep up with.

I use an Excel spreadsheet like moxking. Since I'm mainly a foreign collector, I have a column for country, denomination, year, other notes, and catalog number. For US coins, I have a bolded cell for each new denomination and similar notes - year, mint mark, other notes. It works well and I can access it via my smartphone.

Perks - it's free and easy to customize

@Oldephriam

Is that the app by BJG Apps? On Android it's $1.99 and has good reviews.

It's " US coins" but I don't see a "Plus" version.

I've been using a custom made Filemaker Pro database for years, Only the past few years have the computers and graphics cards gotten to the point they can keep up with handling large format photo files inside the database, and put them up on screen fast as I'd like. I've been using a database I created for my numismatic book library, link here all about it: http://goccf.com/t/248411 My stuff starts on page 2 with screen shots of my various database screens.

Eventually I will re-write the old coin database and add my coin collection to it. My situation is a bit different than most coin collectors, as I collect a short run series by variety, so many, many hundreds of the same date, each with small difference ( Two Cent Pieces a 9 year series, 10 years if you count proof only issues, and 12-15 years if you also include pattern pieces).

My goal would be to get it running on my own webserver, for coin show access via iPhone or iPad to be able to see and remind me what I already have, I've spent too much money buying the same variety I already have in my collection, sometimes even in worse grade.

THis is a good thread here to start you off if you want to use Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. http://goccf.com/t/160736

While there are certainly decent and often well crafted database solutions available commercially, I'd suggest rolling your own, as then it's customized to your own needs, and you can print reports for inventory, insurance, etc. as well as keeping your valuable coins safe in the bank deposit box while still having access to high resolution photos at home or on the road.

I am a spreadsheet user. It gives me what I need with minimal effort, but I will admit that they have their limitations.

I have a spreadsheet as well. the printout is more like a backup if a hard drive of a computer fails.
Just sometimes want to access my collection when I'm not home with pictures and everything. And the phone is always with me.
Does anyone use an app 'Coin Album'?

I also use a spreadsheet (Excel). You can include any information you want. I even hyperlink photos of each coin.
