Four coins caught my eye earlier this week, three Walkers and this Buffalo . All of them are in PCGS Old Green Holders. The Walkers were a bit to weakly struck for my liking so I passed on those, they were common later dates anyway. I did like this Buffalo , a little light toning, and maybe a chance at an upgrade. I can't see any hits to the face except for the one on the jaw near the top of the braid, and there are none in the fields. Just a few tiny scratches in the hair. The reverse has a few small scratches to the front haunch and the belly, and a couple very small ones in the fields. I left the reverse photo rotated because it is, I guess not enough for mentioning on the slab. I will post the picture of the slab label as a link for those impatient ones Thanks for any and all opinions !
I added a pic to show rotation more clearly.

Hello InfInt,
I would call this an AU-55 or 58 based on the photos. Most of the high points (Indian's hair above the braid and near top of head, Buffalo's horn, ear, and haunch, plus the date and "Five Cents") have a lighter color which to me indicates light rub. Otherwise it's close to MS and nearly mark-free, as you point out.

It looks like this is a "late die state" coin. I notice the textured look in the field below Liberty which I believe is caused by an eroded die. The die condition is probably contributing to the weakness of Liberty.

Is the degree of rotation shown accurately? It looks like nearly a 45° rotation which is certainly significant. Perhaps PCGS didn't note it because the person submitting it didn't pay extra for attribution. I would certainly pay extra for a 45° rotation on a high-grade coin like this. Nice Buff!
