Hello,
This is my first day on the forum,so hello all...I am new to coin searching and throughly enjoying it.I believe I found an error coin, and was wondering if anyone had ever seen or heard of it.I have a 1999 New Jersey Washington quarter that has a series of shark teeth indents above the sail mast. They are much to tiny to be a dent strike with an object in my opinion.Anybody have any suggestions,or thoughts? Thanks,Joe

It's just damage from another coins reeded edge striking it probably when they were filling mint bags. If you notice your coins reeded edge it looks just like the damaged area marks.

Welcome to the hobby, Joe! I agree with Mark here -- it's the indentation of the rim of another coin. How are you liking quarter searching? I've read that it's tough to find silver in them, so I haven't tried. I started off on halves, but those are a pain in the rear to dump, so I've switched to variety searching cents. My first notable cent find is worth at least twice the silver value I pulled in halves, so I'm happy with the switch! You can just try jumping denominations until you find one you prefer.
Rest in Peace

to the Forum. I was leaning toward shark's teeth lol, but now that it's been mentioned, reeded edge contact.

Thanks so much for the quick replies, much appreciated.Hey Druu, all I have done so far is a large jar of mixed coins I had here in the house which didn't yield anything fun or interesting.I want to start searching rolls now,and will probably start with Quarters.I could always switch to cents like you said. The only silver I have found is metal detecting.

I gave up on searching quarters and dime rolls as I never find much of anything for some reason except for pulling the 100% nickle Canadian coins from them . I really like searching nickle rolls for 1959 and earlier nickles - and cent rolls yield all kinds of good finds including die cracks, die chips, etc. Plus I always keep the "S" mint coins.
