Roll hunting nickels today and this was in OBW roll. I think obviously double struck, with the Queen's Jewels on the beaver's back; a stray "D" next to the "5" in 5 cents and then many stray impressions on the obverse. Two denticle lines showing on both sides. Amazing it had been out there so long. Comments and technical descriptions appreciated. Thanks

Looks more like coin was stuck, hit multiple times before being extracted. I say that because of the angle of impressions and squeezing of rim. Now, this could be PMD of course, not in minting process, but is interesting. Excellent find, never seen anything quite like that, I'm jealous! Have to see what others say...

Adding to previous, its 99% a product of PMD. Someone placed another coin on top & hit with hammer, why rim edge is imbedded and rim smashed on both sides. Hammer hit wasnt flat on. Hit to many nails in my lifetime!

Do you think the doubling on the Queen's head is the neckline?

I also didn't think it could be PMD due to the two sets of denticles, one of which is inside the other.

PMD

The fact that it is showing the RCM Logo that did not come out
until 2006 proves it was done outside the Mint. Also if you look at the lettering,
it is in reverse. If this was double struck, it would be reading positive.
Doesn't really matter how it was done, If it wasn't done in the mint, it is PMD.

Thanks all....especially Crazybo. I thought I might have had something but all your comments make perfect sense. Especially the one about the RCM logo. Great to have all the experience in the forum.

We often refer to this as a vise job, but this looks like two nickels pressed together and hit with a hammer

I was going to post that it was PMD because of the RCM logo - but I was beat to the punch.

I am seeing alot of people showing PMD coins, trying to get big dollars for them.

Where in the US did you find this?
How did this garage job end up so far from home?
Including the subject coin three different coins were used, unlikely to have been made in the US.
The coin is not round. How could it end up in a OBW roll? Original Bank Wrap rolls are done by machine and would not allow something so oblong to be rolled. You are likely getting somebody's hand-wrapped dump rolls.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

DBM....got it from a bank in Montana. Definitely a bank roll. I was a bit surprised myself that something that oblong would show up. Then again, I have found 7 sided twenty pence (twice), an Aladdin's Castle token, and 10 centavos from Guatemala. Once is a while a Bahama coin which I give to my wife as she thinks they are unique. I don't know what they use to filter the coins, but it seems like some weird ones get through.
