Looking For The "Perfect" Way To Store And Display My Proof And Mint Sets

Two years ago I started on a quest to store/display my
proof and mint sets. They had sat in a box for years.
Occasionally, I would take them out and go through them
but found it to be difficult to really enjoy the coins
I had acquired over the years. I looked into many
different systems. With frustration, I even tried to
make my own albums with archival paper.

The major problem I was running into was that most
albums want to display the coins by series; i.e. all
cents from one date to the present. I wanted to
display them by year! All coins from each year on
a single page (or in the case of post 1999 state
quarters, several pages). I know, I want to go against
the grain!

I had almost given up when I ran across (by accident)
a Dansco album/page that did exactly what I wanted;
store the cent, nickel, dime, quarter (only one!) and
half dollar on a single page for four years.
Unfortunately, it seemed to be out of stock everywhere!

I finally found an online coin dealer who had them in
stock. I e-mailed him regarding the possibility of
additional stock in the future and he candidly replied
that he was not sure about the continued supply of
ANYTHING from Dansco.

So the search continued. This online retailer
recommended the Eagle pages that would store the
plastic 2x2s in a plastic page as well as entire proof
sets. Each page has a 4x5 array of "holes" so you can
design the page anyway you want. They fit into a
standard 3-ring binder. Success!

And then I stumbled onto the CAPS albums that store
Air-tites and I wrestled with the idea of spending
over $1 a coin (not counting the album) to store
a proof set that can be purchased for under $4.00.

So for now I am going with the "do-it-yourself"
Eagle 2x2 storage system. What does the collective
community do to store their precious collections?
