I have been using MWP Pro-Coin Software for years to enter my collection and it seems they are in a lawsuit and possibly out of business, so the software isn't updating and I can't access the website for help. Does anybody have any recommendations for converting to a different software? I have spent countless hours for the last 3 years entering my coins and get sick at the thought of having to start completely over entering them. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

It seems that MWP software was allowing users to access Collectors Universe and PCGS data behind their firewalls, thus allowing their clients to have access without being members of CU services, I'm betting CU will win this one pretty easily. I can't help you out on new software, as I used to use my own custom database in Filemaker Pro, but now I use only my memory, (not so good anymore) but nothing out there handles my collecting needs, which is almost all the same coins with many minute variations, looks like it's time to start coding up a new database again.

Thank you for the reply, yes, it does look like I will have to start fresh. Now I just need to find a software that I can rely on. Thanks again.

Have a close look at what your software can export, either as a database or as a "report," and don't make any decisions about new software until you've thoroughly researched the field. I strongly suspect at least someone out there is looking to capitalize on MWP's misfortune, by making their own software more accessible to former MWP customers. I don't have any names off the top of my head, but if it's possible it seems reasonable to think that somebody's doing it.
I, like westcoin, suspect CU is about to create a smoking crater where MWP once stood.

I agree with Dave in that there has to be some way to export the data that you have compiled. If this is completely a web based program, I would recommend doing it sooner rather than later. If something like this blows up on a purely web based application, your username and credentials can cease to work immediately.
I've used Coin Manage in the past through Liberty Street. I liked the SW a lot and had good success with it.

Use Excel. One nice thing about starting over is you may find many flaws in what you already were doing. Also, might find different information. It is a pain but could be worse.

MWP ProCoin Software
Looking for some help. Had to reinstall Pro Coin since it was not working properly. Since the web site is down could not enter my email to verify I purchased a license. For the evaluation version no tab under file menu to import a backup file. That said I can't create an Excel export file to at least have a record of the collection. Couple of questions.
1. Anyone know status of suit? 2. How can I validate my copy so I can access my database? 3. Other coin management software capable of important Pro Coin backup files
Help and thanks!

I used pro-coin. I liked the software, bummed about the lawsuit. I am exporting my data out via excel.
KDS,
When you load up pro-coin evaluation, you should see a "register" box. Try entering the registered email. If that does not work that is a big problem. I doubt pro-coin will be back in business. You cannot import a backup in Pro-Coin evaluation version. I hope you can get it to work out.

OK, you got me interested and - while I'm not a lawyer, I have a PACER account and know how to use it.
Collector's Universe is going for the throat. In the amended complaint filed 28Oct (and of course these are ALWAYS written from the plaintiff's perspective so everything they THINK happened is of course the truth)...
* NC has dissolved MWP Software LLC for some reason, the suit is both against MWP and Matthew Perry personally. * Suing over both PCGS CoinFacts and Sportscard Market Report * Perry is a subscriber to both services
Also suing for copyright infringement, unfair competition (state law) and trademark infringement
And they seek actual damages, any and all profits and full costs and attoryney's fees. Plus destruction of all copies of the software. Plus a permanent injunction against any infringing use - so there goes any updates.
Also, Mr. Perry has not filed any response to the complaint, no notice of counsel, nothing. If he doesn't respond, CU will likely win by default.

Thanks Folks
Here's one for you...the trial version of Pro Coin allows you to import backups from coin manage...but not it's own backup files! Does anyone know of an application that can read and decipher the .pck file backup file from Pro Coin?
Thanks!

I used to use Coin Manage from Liberty Street for years. It used to be a really good product. In fact I still have it on my PC as I've been moving my collection from Coin Manage to MWP for about the last 2 years. With Coin Manage the support really went downhill a couple years ago, they'll answer any questions at first but after you purchase the product, it's hard to get any help or answers to questions. When I upgraded from their 2009 version to the 2011 version (they skipped a 2010 version) there didn't seem to be any updates in the values. This is when I decided to move to another product. The GUI interface was a lot nicer that MWP but coin value upgrades is a must for my collection as well as any new coin denominations. This is very frustrating to hear that MWP is probably gone now as it was great to see the ongoing upgrades that they were providing. I hope Matthew can recover some how from this mess and wish there was something I could do to help. I really hate to see the MWP product gone. I'd be great if PCGS would develop software for coin collectors to use, they would be the idea company to have such a product.

Per NirSoft, pck is a type of archive ( http://extension.nirsoft.net/pck), although that's primarily used for games. So it might be worth trying to open it with something like 7Zip and see what's in it.

Seeking a way ahead. Has anyone found a way to retrieve collection data from the ProCoin backup file with extension pcb. 7 Zip unwraps the data but most of the fiels are ACSII garbage. Had to reintall ProCoin and without the web page your license can't be validated so it forces you to choose the trial version...it does not have a menu item under file to import the backup file. Just wish I had created an Excel file when it was active and working for me. If I could get my collection even on hard cop=y would be done with Pro Coin. Help out there?
Thanks, K

Well, I'm using a customizable Freeware called HAPPY COLLECTION v2.7b ... Its database is made of seven sets of two Paradox files, which correspond with the seven possible databases. Each set has "2" files with the following contents : - Data itself - Text of memo notes It has other options, like: - Import & Export data toward Excel sheet - Search for database either through "Seek" option or "SQL" ( if you have a knowledge) - Database backup - 14 Fields customizable fields (text & Numeric) - Imposing your own pics directory However, the Freeware is not mainly for Coin Collections. It's generally created for Collectibles. Thus, it does not have any Coin (or other Collectibles) database directory where you could monitor your collection and its market value trends. You can download it from: http://alainlecomte.free.fr/phpBB2/index.phpCheers
