to me that looks like the reverse had contact with some cloth.

The reverse does look like a cleaning leftover, aren't woodies more uniform, all over? This doesn't seem deeply entrenched, no planchet flaw appears on obverse.

Indeed. If it was a woodie, the "graining" would normally show on both sides.
