How would you identify minor doubled dies, especially on modern cents?

I would compare whatever you suspect is a doubled die to the listings on http://coppercoins.com/ Then if your coin isn't there, upload a picture to the forums here and you should have an answer within a few hours. I use coppercoins as my primary resource when I CRH cents.

On the ones that area real minor they will perhaps be just notches in the corners of some area, but not on others. If they are very minor, when I take images of them, I can't get them to show on my editing software. Then I know it is too minor. If you are using a high power glass to to view them, they are probably too minor. It is always best to submit images to an attributer first, to see if he would be interested in looking at the coin. New varieties are found all the time. But they need to be strong enough to get listed.

This is one topic I learned early on not to decide one way or the other too quickly. I hate to think I steered someone in the wrong direction without first checking known resources, some of which are mentioned above.

If in wonder or doubt, check resources for other known examples for comparison.

If still in doubt, save for later comparison and or post here for others opinions.

I've seen some listed that make me think no way. Yet they are listed, so not being an expert, I take it for what it is.

Watch for the subtle notching and extra thickness on raised devices while comparing to a normal example from the same year and origin.

If the devices are incused on the coin then the devices will tend to be thinner on a Doubled Die. Thanks, Doug.
