I saw someone mention this on the 2017 new coins post. This really gets my goat - how easily Jeffersons face gets nicked on newer nickels.

It's hard to tell because, obviously, newer nickels have spent less time in circulation.

Most of the 2006-present nickels I've seen have more dings on the field to Jefferson's left (our right, sorry) than on the face. I can't really tell about the 2005 design because they don't come up too often.

Generally though, 2006's look cleaner on the face than 2004's from what I've seen.

Personal note: I really dislike the 2006-present Jefferson portrait.

on the new portrait. Would have been good as a one-off, but I'm tired of looking at it. Post-modernism.
