How can you locate and find trusted coin dealers and collectors? How do you know you can trust them and what they are selling?

As an American Numismatic Association member, I may be a bit biased but I would suggest starting with the ANA Dealer Directory in your search. ANA dealers must adhere to a Code of Ethics in all transactions. https://www.money.org/find-a-dealer

Your question is a tough one . there are many trusted dealers out there as well as some that over grade , over charge ,etc . biokemist6 is right on with the ANA dealer directory . They are sworn to a code to not deceive anyone . This dealer is my favorite but expensive .If your looking for a special coin, they have it . http://www.beymerzcoins.com/

I would add that you should look for local clubs and shows. Go hang around and make friends. Trust is built over time. But before you spend too much money, you really need to learn about what you're buying. Study pics of the real coins and the fakes, too. It takes a bit of time and effort, but it's best to trust yourself.

99% of dealers are great, you will always find a not so great in anything you do, whether it be coin collecting or a collection of any thing else. ..just be careful and watch what you are doing at all times.

When looking for a coin dealer, remember the following. People become coin dealers for the same reason some people sell used cars, sell toys, sell anything. They are in it for the money. True some dealers are more honest than others. Yet as I said, they are all in this hobby to make money, not friends.

Read reviews online. They are mostly from non-collectors, so they will let you know if they felt they were being taken advantage of or not.
Also, visit their store and talk with them. Just be casually looking at their stuff and talking about coins. If they know what they are talking about and like talking about coins in general, then they probably aren't out to take advantage of you. They will try to help you out in whatever you need. However, if they have only overpriced stuff and seem impatient for you to buy something, they are not worth your time. They are in it for the money only, and you are just a means to an end.
