Greetings All I was cleaning out my attic the other day when I discovered a folgers coffee can loaded with rolls of wheat pennies and 10 rolls of wartime Jefferson nickels. I searched one of the rolls and came across this 1958 Jefferson what caught my immediate attention was by the date is a period or belly button at about 3 o'clock see pic. I haven't been to reference this nic anywhere not even in the cherry pickers. I have lots of nickel errors but have never seen anything like this one. Has any one here seen anything like this before. It looks like the obverse die had a rust pocket on the die which would create the variety, thanks all *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Edited by vambuyer 02/09/2017 11:20 pm

It could be a small die chip.

Crazy, I thought coin dip before I thought food dip, and wondered why you wanted to clean his nickel?

so far in the wheats I have found two flying eagles, 1857 and 1858 both probably in au+ condition. a couple of 1863 Indian heads and some early 1900 Indian and a couple of 1909 VDB still have 29 rolls to go.

Quote: "Crazy, I thought coin dip before I thought food dip, and wondered why you wanted to clean his nickel?" You are now officially diagnosed with numismosis. Wow! Those are awesome finds vambuyer! I'd be happy with the wheat rolls only containing wheats, but to get AU Flying Eagles? Please do update with anything interesting from the other rolls and, as is customary: Edit: If you want to take pics of some of them, you can create a new topic in the appropriate forum. For instance, the Flying Eagles should be in the US Classic Coin section.

I'm not an expert but those are probably in the F-VF range, not AU. However, it really doesn't matter because they are worth waaaay more than one cent. I can't even imagine my excitement if I found one of those in a penny roll! Thanks for the pics.

So getting back to the Jefferson, anyone have you seen this variety before (die chip or rust) or any idea on population. I may send it in for certification if it is semi or very rare, thxs
