Trying to identify this dime I found. I am not an avid coin collector, so I don't know the lingo used. Bear with me :)

This coin appears to have something wrong with it. The date being the most obvious at first look. The edge of the coin is half smooth/blank.

I've searched all the xxx3-P dimes and cannot find one like this one. Any insight would be appreciated.

@bethwv, first welcome to CFF. Second, it is a little hard to tell from your pictures, but either the first three digits were damaged and thus largely removed after minting (so-called PSD) or else the three numbers in that die had a little bit of grease in them when this coin was struck. If you search CCF for the keyword " Greaser" you will see lots of examples as this seems to be a fairly common occurrence.

Tried to get better photos, not sure if it's much help. I did manage to get a better view of the coins edge.

Thanks so much for the " Greaser" info. I have never heard of that before. Very interesting!

To me looks like your coin was damaged. There is a hit on the obverse that was so strong it damaged the reverse flatting the design. So the date and time are probably from the same abuser. PSD
