Well, I would say don't certify anyway. That is still AG 03. That does seem like a D mintmark.

The only thing is, that would then seem to be from a practical standpoint the lowest grade you might be able to get certified for a D (or S, for that matter) Peace dollar - it would take only the slightest bit more wear for the mint mark to be no longer discernable.

Well yes, but I saw a PCGS AG 03 sell for like $30 on ebay. Don't waste your money on grading fees.

A bit more obverse wear would get it to Poor 1 (pocket piece the obverse and cover the reverse to prevent wear) -- right now Fair 2 obverse / poor reverse Yup, she's a D mint 1922.

I looked up the NGC population report for the 1922-D, and only 4 have ever been certified in the Poor to About Good range (frustratingly, they don't break down that number among the three grades covered). So you'd think such would be more desirable, but the market is what it is regardless of how much you might tout a piece's "rarity"....
