Found this 1968 S in a penny roll and not sure how it got this way but it's as brilliant as a proof obverse has strong motto , liberty and date . Motto is touching rim of coin all the way around and the L in liberty is as well the date and bust are not the reverse has strong normal features. On the obverse lincolns bust is almost featureless . Just kinda confused !

That is not a proof. 1968 was the year before they sharpened details, so that is why the beard is mushy.

The whole bust appears to be mushy . Coop told me about that being the last year they used that master hub you could see how much it was spreading .

The first pic does look like a proof to me. The reverse is hard to tell.

I see slight amount of wear on the obverse, so it may have been cleaned or buffed up a bit. But it is not a proof coin. The surface on them are mirror like. The is also slight amount of MD on the motto devices. But the 1968-1972 cents had a lot of this happening during those years.

It's the best looking penny I've been able to find in my searching for the 1960s decade and is has an S mint mark ususally what I get with a mm is beaten up pretty bad this one has a good shine to it. I thought maybe it was a proof that had been in circulation for a while. It I couldn't figure out why it had so much wear on the bust with all the high points worn off but I guess from what you guys are saying it was the dies and not just wear . I appreciate the clarification ! Thanks for the replies !

Just found this 1961 that has pretty much the same features but is almost ms on the obverse and the reverse is half red half brown . Don't know if something was spilled on this or how it happened .
