I like the original patina on this one. I think it is F12 but would love some other opinions.

1st coin

Obv F12 - Has weak LIBERTY and shield.
Rev VF20 - Has strong, full shield - nice.
Net F12 - Unfortunate that obv shield holds it back. Other parts of the coin quite nice.
Are you sure you want to settle for a Fine specimen?

2nd coin

Looks like it was stabbed repeatedly with a knife. I would avoid it.

The first one grades Fine by today's standards. It would have been a Choice VG in times past.

The second one is scratched and has silver corrosion. It's also been rubbed up on the high points probably to remove some of the corrosion. You might call it a "classy filler," but I won't want for much over the melt value.

Certainly agree the first one would have been VG-10 in the old days. Still is to me.

I like the first one as FINE12...The second would likely go DETAILS. IMO....

Indeed amazing how a coin with only 3 full letters of Liberty showing can be graded Fine.

The first coin is a solid Fine, no more, no less.

The second coin has major issues with scratching on the obverse, almost as if it were dropped onto a hard surface.

I would avoid the second coin, if slabbed it would probably grade out to VF-20 details, scratches.

First VG10 obverse/F12 reverse, second VG10/F15 reverse, first has better eye appeal but cleaned, second has been cleaned and has major environmental damage and deep hits on the shields obverse and reverse.

Neither one of these coins would straight grade at a TPG.

1st coin VG-10 2nd should just make F-12. Pretty common date. Think you can do better.
