1986 penny can't tell if it's Cud or PMD there isn't any damage on the rim in the area but the reverse also looks normal doesn't look like a weak strike in the area . Opinions please ?

I don't believe it's a Cud. It looks like metal from the rim was moved down into the "I".

How, I don't know. Maybe a fin?

Thanks spruett I don't know either . It does look to me like it happened during the strike because it formed the rim . Maybe a chip ?

Not a Cud. Looks like struck through copper foil.

Thanks john1 . If it was struck through wouldn't it be level with the field ? It is raised so that means the material had a place to go . And if it was a hit I would think there should me material missing from the rim but there is no damage there either .

Sorry been in an area with no service all day . I guess coop didn't stop by. The more I think about it it may be a Rim Fin as suggested by spruett that got rolled over in a coin bag . But I still don't know lol.

Well john1 looks like I may have gotten my answer from another post a post about a nickel with a similar question coop said it was a struck through rim but and said it will make a crescent moon shape on the coin so I believe you were the closest . Thanks for your replies !
