I believe this was caused by heat from whatever source but figured I'd post it anyway.I did weigh it and it was 3.06g.Also is this the large date? Thanks for any advice!

That's an odd one. It does look like someone gripped it with a pliers on one side and tried to melt the copper off the other. Hmm...

I'm not sure about the cause of the damage, but it is a large date.

It's probably not heat. I've messed with pennies and blowtorches before and when the penny reaches red hot it forms a thick, black, ceramic oxide which flakes off. If it really was melted it would look cleaned to the max, I.E. very pink.

It was used to make some kind of electrical connection.Notice the discoloration around the melted points. Red,Black,pink,yellow indicative of a power surge
