Oh yeah, it took me a minute. The coin is 100 at that! I'm looking forward to 100, hope I won't be as worn as Lincoln - wouldn't want to scare anyone. lol

Modern cents just don't wear out like that. I think it's because they just don't circulate too long. They end up in jars or lost.

If a modern cent got that much wear, you would see a lot of zinc (in theory). In practice, once the copper plating gets breached the zinc begins to corrode ("rot"), and the coin starts to deteriorate until it literally starts falling apart bit by bit.

It might be a moot point because I doubt cents will be circulating in 70 years from now (when the first zinc Lincoln cents were minted would be around 100 years old.

I agree with you both, a cent is almost worthless today and many end up in jars. I also see them deteriorating quickly when the plating is compromised. It's funny though, I can't actually think of any I've seen with a lot of wear. Thanks for the comments.
