Hi everyone, I'm Joe from Southern Maryland.

I've always had an interest in coins going back to my childhood in the 70's. My Dad always saved pennies and dimes and we started to put together a few folders from his stash. I bet he still has them somewhere in his den.

I would always check my change for any interesting coins, especially anything older than me. My wife knew this and gave me some coin folders so now I'm trying to fill them up. Not necessarily looking for high grade coins, just enjoying the thrill of the hunt and the satisfaction of accomplishing a goal. I've started to dabble in CRH a bit and had some success there too. Half dollars are my favorite, but my interests are broad.

I've been lurking for a few months and I'm very impressed with this group's knowledge and passion, as well as the incredible diversity of interests.
Rest in Peace

Thanks for the welcome. It is a fun hooby, and my 14 year old daughter is starting to take an interest. She likes the State Quarters and has started looking for the ATB Quarters whenever we have change. Strangely enough, I think her biggest enjoyment is when we go to the coin counter machine at our credit union after a little CRH. She likes to play over/under with the amount of coins we deposit.

On our last trip to the credit union is was fairly busy at the coin counter and we had to wait in line. We started talking to the family ahead of us and found out that they were depositing a year's worth of change since it was their son's birthday and they do this every year. He seemed about 7 years old and was having a good time. I quickly pulled out 3 Kennedys from our deposit and gave them to him and his brothers as a birthday gift. They thought it was so cool because they had never seen that type of coin before. Their Mom and Dad thought it was cool too.

to the family Joe11!

That was a great gesture, I try anything that may spark a young ones interest in coin collecting...you never know what it might be that peaks the interest, at the moment or down the road.

You'll have to post a pic when you fill even come close to filling your folder!
