I put this here because it involves NGC, but also world coins. I've enjoyed using NGC's site for getting a general idea of whether a world coin I come across is interesting or not. I know that these types of guides including the RedBook and Krause show inflated "retail" values.

Lately, though, I've come across a few like this and it totally baffles me. How can a much higher grade have a lower value? Also, how can the value listed be higher, then lower, then higher again as the grade increases?

I have a lot of criticism of them, but in this case likely just a typo

Another possibility?

I assume NGC updates their values as they receive new information.
They may have "the latest results" posted next to an older valuation.
And prices change with time.
Rest in Peace

I tend to agree with Spruett001 , If this is not a typo then NGC needs to explain why these coin values are out of order . To me this chart undervalues NGC competence .

At first I thought it was a premium for a lowball, but a F-12 isn't really considered a lowball.

I assume its just a typo.

On second thought that whole group is just jacked up. That is a lot of typos. MS 60 is a dog but XF shouldn't be worth more which that screen shot is showing a lot

There ARE coins that are incredibly rare in circulated condition but common in MS (the SS Central Republic shipwreck gold comes to mind), but this seems beyond that...

Have you considered asking NGC? I know that many pricing guides are willing to check/update when problems are pointed out.

If you look at the PCGS coinfacts webpage, for many coins the Poor and Fair grades have higher values than the About good or good grades, this is due to demand from lowball collectors, but as someone said above, that doesn't really apply in the instance of a coin that grades at Fine.

I would have also assumed a typo but I've seen it several times now. It may be an updating issue. Maybe I'll contact them and see what they say. Thanks for the input!
