Hullo there, this coin is advertised as a shilling, I'm wondering if it's actually a sixpence instead? And I'm wondering if anybody here knows if this coin looks genuine?

also does anyone have any rough estimate as to how much it's worth?

It's a sixpence. Elizabeth I shillings weren't dated.

I'm sure one of our hammered experts will come along with an approximate value. It looks genuine to me.

In mint state, the sixpence should weigh about 6.1g.

Disclaimer: not an expert. Any faults are my own.

North 1997/Spink 2562 6d and should weight around 2.9-3g with a diameter of approx. 25.0-25.3mm, with an unclipped flan, in average Fine. Was this a ground recovery coin? It appears the obverse has sustained some scratches in front of the bust, perhaps it could also be crystallization of the metal/alloy separation. Not sure what the white areas are on the reverse.

A quick look at auctions and you can find the same date with the various intermediate bust types has sold in F-gF for £30-£50 and nVF-VF for £60-£90, above VF it gets quite expensive to play. Your coin is decently centered, with minor flan loss; but I wouldn't expect that it should bring more than £20/as-is on the top end and that's only if there are not further issues not seen in the photos.

I'd keep it for the historic value and to have one in the cabinet if you haven't got one already.
