Came across this today, not sure if it could be considered to be caused by doubling, or Cud, I kinda pressed on it with another penny and it's solid. Didn't break and be brittle like zinc rot. Any thoughts?

It wouldn't be zinc rot or a plating issue because it is pre-1982: 95% copper alloy, not plated.

It is a couple of die chips (one each in 9 and 5): included in filled numbers/letters.

A much nicer find than a plating issue!

the term Cud relates to a defect on the edge of a coin

most times with a Cud, the coin also shows a weak strike on the other side of the coin. See the weakness in PLURIBUS? the metal to form the Cud reduced the metal to that area

This has been a very helpful community for me. You even get answers to questions you didn't ask but maybe should have!

I hope you stick around!
